Creating a model for Black autonomous communities.
HI THERE. WE’RE QUILOMBO
a liberated space that aims to restore and center the collective physical needs of Black women and GNC folks on Chicago’s South Side.
We’re creating the kind of communities we want to live in.
In 2021, a group of BYP100 members came together to create an organization that we now call Chicago Quilombo. It is a physical organizing home, and a home in the literal sense. We are Black young adults creating spaces for us—Izwe-Lethu!
OUR MISSION
Safety defined as for us by us without police

third spaces that affirm us...
IZWE-LETHU: COLLECTIVE OWNERSHIP
[/ˈi(ː)zwe ˌleːtʊ/]
Our values dictate that we abide by cooperative-values and are guided by principles established by the community we both serve and are part of.
UJAAMA PROGRAMMING
We are looking for businesses & organizations that want to operate within our space, and hold events that benefit Black & Brown folks in Chicago.
FINANKRA HOUSING
Black women, femmes and gender-non conforming folks are under attack. We are using our resources to defend and protect them.
RESOURCES FOR Collective Ownership Stewards and Community Members
The Chicago chapter is the first and founding chapter of BYP100. It is important to know the history of where BYP100’s members and surrounding community organized, built friendships and planned campaigns together, to understand how young Black people who are members of BYP100 have set deep roots in this city around the liberating work of abolition and Black Radical Imagination.
